The air-con compressor on my county rattled loose while off roading I got it fixed back on and the guy checked the system for leaks, but the actual seal on the compressor was stuffed and not repairable

They quoted approx $900 for a new compressor, fittings and gas etc. It's still on the to do list 12 months later.

About $120 to replace.

In short if you can't feel the load of the compressor when you switch it on then there is a possiblity that the gas is safe in the system and you prob is electrical. If you feel the load and it's still warm then yes you have an aircon problem.

    Cheers
checked on the way home tonight, couldnt feel the load on the vehical, tried it a few times at the lights and heading up the Greenmount hill just to double check, and definately sounds more like an electrical problem now.
I will investigate a bit further now

Mine did similar - fortunately, I found the clutch assembly on the compressor had decided to detach and find itself on top of the motor wedged under plastic TD5 engine cowl. Very lucky did not destroy front of motor or radiator - sat up there for at least 2 days after I checked every other possibility.

Apparently after our last gulf trip on corrugated roads - loosed metal thread securing clutch. Just had to purchase new bolt and clutch washers from air conditioner technician. Suggest all check tightness and secure metal thread with appropriate locktite. Stupid design should be a lock nut.

    Works a treat again.

    Regards

    Rover
