I either get 11.5L or 8.7L by my maths depending on what way I divide the 2 figures! Either way its good economy compared to other 4x4's of the same size

    c.h.i.e.f,
You are going 8.7Km on each Ltr
You will use 11.5Ltr to go 100Km.

I am getting similar figures. At best 10.5 at legal speed limits on highway.

    Regards,
    PeterW

Yeah thought that might have been a fib ! I have been told by a good source that when he chipped, upgraded intercoolers, different exhaust and some other things that he does and plant the foot all 4 wheels would break traction on tar

    CHIEF,

Check out the British website intercooler fabrication specialists if your interested in performance on Pumas and Td5's for that matter.

These guys have to lower their defenders to keep them on the track and they've been featured in magazines like LRW, LRO and LR Monthly. They do mapping to remove the limiter and boost power to insane levels. It started with replacement inter-coolers and it has grown to a massive business in the UK. Drop them an e-mail and they'll give you all the info regarding chips, airflow and the rest.

Being the UK they obviously have unlimited access to replacement and after market mechanical bits to replace those that will give under the new strains!

    towing in top

You can probably tow all right in top gear in a Puma just as my 03 Defender 130 ute Td5 tows heavy loads easily in 5th. Until you get to about 140,000 kms and find the gearbox bearings have worn out and all need to be replaced. One thing that LR don't tell you. Yes the vehicle can tow and carry the most in its class. But not for very long.

Yeah my mate also mentioned its great power but he is forever replacing gearboxes mainly due to pulling heavy loads with no effort in 5th gear eventually flogs it out
