Yeah it does suck - The family is more upset missing the camping trip than i am which is the hard part.

Re the foxtel and stuff Nugge t, the war office likes her 5 stars, not 5 billion star accomodation. Plus the kids get a bit restless after a few days. So its great for them to wach a movie or the cricket.... (Hmmm) as a treat.

The reason for my frustration is because I had plans for a family camping holiday out back of Licola. I have a brand new Camper trailer, Eco diesel shower, Honda generator and even a portable satellite dish so the kids can watch foxtel when they get boarded at nights. 4 days before the planned departure the ECU dies... The family is really disappointed about it as I don’t get holidays all that often.

Symo, I reckon in hindsight you should have gone the loan car and a free service. Holidays with the family don't grow on trees. But ECU's are replaced all the time, mine had one within 1000klm.
4 weeks is terrible, as juddy mentioned parts from OS can be ordered and delivered with 5 days, if not 3.

we hav tryed to get alot of parts out of uk as of late, and its near impossible, we have just got a oil feed pipe for a tdv6 on a 5 week back order as there is simply non in the world it seems, plus FedEx is still usless as they cant take off??? so atm the only way is buy boat,

and over new yrs they all slaken off big time,

plus the part will only come over when there is a big enof shipment to get over,, there is no chance they will send individual items, unless its a very very very important and very special circumstances its will get sent over direct to the dealer,

witch needs alot of talking to landrover to get aproved, witch basicly means no chance

I agree newhue. Family holidays are important and that’s why I’m so disappointed about all of this. The loan car was a Camry, I asked for a defender or disco as I could go to meringtons or someplace easy with it. Still bush camping but not quite as nice (or as challenging to get to) as my Licola spot. Alas they said no. As the defender was my weekender anyway I didn’t see the point of the loaner hence swapping it for the first service.

The fact that your ECU died also worries me, the dealer said that “this never happens” that’s why LRA don’t have them in stock – am I that gullible?

Regardless of how often a part fails – there should be stock here in this country to fix anything that goes wrong with the cars, not simply order them from the factory when you need one. That would be fine if the factory was in Sydney, but when they are in the UK (and they obviously don’t use Fedex) all parts should be on the shelf here.

That’s the crux of this Stig0000 – all the other stuff they have fed me about how this never happens or the snowbound UK airports is just smoke and mirrors to distract us from the real point – lack of support by LRA. 5 weeks delivery time for an oil feed line is a joke – sorry but it is. An ECU is pretty high tech therefore difficult to make (they do sit quite happily on a shelf in AUSTRALIA if LRA monitor these forums), but an oil feed line could be bent up by the hose doctors in 2 hours (assuming it’s just a line)

Now off my soap box - must take the family to a movie or something – get them out of the house.

What if you called Land Rover dealerships around the world direct and found out who had one, then get LRA to get it in.

Have you tried Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide, they may be wrecking a PUMA.

Linn wreckers in WA (on ebay) have been advertising PUMA parts from a wreck recently, they may have one in stock. Even if you get a new one later, a 2nd hand one will get you going and you'll end up with a spare.

On the D2 security settings for immobilasation and door locking can be turned off by the dealer, maybe disable all that stuff on your PUMA before a big trip.

    just some ideas.

    Michael 2,
I asked the dealer to take a ecu out of one of the 130's they had on the lot - doubtfull they would sell 3 in a month I thought. I was told thar the ECU is 1 time paired to the car so not interchangable between cars.

    LRA excuse #132b Hmmmm

    Hello everyone,

I,m. reasonably new to the Forum and have been reading this thread with interest. I'm also a recent PUMA owner (approx 3 months) and the vehicle with only 1500k's is also prone to the problems described earlier i.e. coughing/spluttering and on one occasion this weekend just stopped while travelling along at 60k/hr @ 2000rpm and fortunatley restarted without any drama.

I will be calling LRA on Tuesday, see what they have to say.

Note this is my 3rd LR, and 1st Defender I love it, so far!!!!

Just out of interest my L322 did the same thing because the key fob battery was flat.$7 later at Dick Smith's and it's never happened since. Pat

All you buggers are great - what a fantasic forum...

I say this as i value your comments and feedback, having said this i realise that I amso have a responsibility here... That is to try and be clear and in some threads I read here that gets lost.

Lurcho just reminded me of that.

This defender is my third Land Rover as well, V8 90 Disco, 2002 TDI defender and now the Puma. Although I have this problem with the ECU, and although the car is in the dealer and although LRA are giving it to me without lube...(ahhmmm). Damn I love this car and everything about it.

It take my family away on holidays and brings us together, its cool and I feel like a king when i drive it. It has character and yes, the support that those who import the car provide is sub standard in my opinion.

Would i trade her in on a IFS (Im Frigen Stuck) toyota or Mitsubishi just cos the pannels fit better??? NOOOO...

Even though im bitchen here about the lack of parts, wouldnt change a thing...

    (damn soap box)

    Cheers all....
