Lennock Canberra and 09MY and 11MY

    Hi guys,

I am thinking about a new Defender and I am expecting some niggling problems that need to be sorted out under warranty. From what I have read on here the amount of grief this causes is dependent largely on the dealer. So anyone got any comments or feedback for Lennock Motors in Canberra? Doesn't seem to be many Defenders around for them to be practicing on.

Also what are the practical differences if any between a 09MY and 11MY Defender?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

    Hi Jason,
I've got a D3 and have found Lennock to be vastly superior to Rolfe. They are possibly a little understaffed although my truck doesn't come out after a service with more faults than it went in with which is what used to happen at Rolfe.

    Regards,

Only one experience with them to get a recall done. Car came back with grease on the carpet and a greasy boot mark on the footrest. Also minor scratches on the drivers door - it seems they were leaning through the open window to operate controls.

Thankfully all cleaned up OK and no issues with codes or other aspects.

I agree with Tote - at this stage they are better than Rolfes.

I bought my D90 from Lennock last March and I too have found them OK and much better than Rolfe. They seem to be trying to make a go of the dealership. No real warranty issues other than a rear main oil seal in the transfer case. Had it in first thing in the morning and they rang me to pick it up at lunchtime. I got them to get me a towbar. Rang up just before lunch to book it in to get it fitted and the service manager asked could I get there within the hour. I said ok if you can lend me a car for the afternoon. An hour later, I drove out in a new VW.

Re 09MY and 11MY differences? Only significant one that I am aware of is the ETC which in 11MY vehicles works across all four wheels while in earlier Pumas, the front and rear ETC worked independently.

    Cheers

As someone looking for a defender at the moment I can also say they've got a 90, 110 wagon and 130 HCPU pickup in stock. Went by the other day to have a stickybeak and it meant I could check out all three models side by side.

The 130 HCPU really took my eye, with the exception that it's a very shiny black colour - I don't think it would stay like that for long!

I found Justin Cornock, Lennock's Land Rover Sales Manager quite good to deal with.

If they have 3 defer's in stock they all will have 2010 on the firewall so you should be able to negotiate a good deal with an extended warranty thrown in at least.
I heard that one of the cheapest places to go for an extended warranty is down my way at southern classic cars,( LR, vw, audi, jag and skoda) dealer in wollongong. we used them for our ext. warr. on my wifes multivan and they where cheaper by several hundred than supposedly bigger Syd. dealers.

Dealers do vehicle swaps all the time, and there may be vehicles warehoused in Sydney or on the wharves. A vehicle swap would cost you minimally. Get some quotes, even over the phone. Play one against the other. Start off by telling each that you are going to buy a vehicle and you are ready to put down a deposit but that you are looking for the best deal first. Tell Lennock that you are very interested in purchasing from them for obvious reasons but not that colour. What have you got to loose?

yes i will give it a go. Waiting for Lennock to get back to me with pricing and options available but I believe Justin is or was on leave and things are a bit slow.

I feel like I would have more bargaining power going for a tradesman white but this is a car I will be keeping for the long term so might as well get it right.
