ENGINE SAVER ALARM - where is yours fitted

i am now having some issues with my engine saver alarm due to its new location

    where is yours fitted

    • radiator
    • thermostat housing
    • expansion tank

on start up do you get a short beep or a long beeeeeeeep that either goes for 5 secs or 5 minutes

mine was in the radiator and i used to get a short beep as it check itself prior to starting and have never had an issue. it went off once as it should off when a radiator hose failed

now mine is in the radiator expansion tank 'hole drilled in the side' and the short beep has been replaced with either a 5 sec beeep or a 5 minute beeeeeeeeeeeep. the beeeeeep is doing my head in esp at 5:15 in the morning peak hour driving to work

i have emailed engine saver to see if i can purchase a new sensor, but first i have to confirm if the thread for the top plug in the radiator is still the same.

just wondering if anybody has had any issues with there installation

Just to confirm that we are talking about the loss of water alarm and not the engine temp alarm that has a sensor on the engine block.

I have both and they work fine - the water loss one it is the type that goes into the top radiator hose. When I first installed it, it worked as advertised - a SHORT beep on ignition on then all quiet. A little later it went off - as part of the installation the coolant was changed and when the air locked in the system made its way to the radiator and was vented out the water level dropped accordingly and the alarm sounded - topped up the radiator and all is good. Where the sensor is in the top hose does allow the water to drop a little before sounding which is good.

The environment in the overflow tank means that the coolant level goes up and down and in my view can cause false readings - that is why I put mine in the radiator hose so that there is a bit of a buffer - failing that if I was you I would go back to putting the sensor in the radiator.

    thanks garry

yes the loss of water alarm

the radiator is no longer an option as i believe the thread size has changed and the radiator place destroyed the sensor.......

will wait for a reply from the dudes at engine saver

Are you speaking to David Jones at Enginesaver Low Water Alarms (a member of AULRO). I had lots of questions before I bought mine and all questions were answered very promptly.

I would see if you can get the sensor that goes in the top radiator hose - gives you a little bit of an extra buffer to prevent false alarms due to coolant level changes in the primary coolant circuit.

    Hi,

Mine is the in the coolant overflow reservoir and emits a continous 5 second beep every time i turn the key (like clockwork). Works fantastic and led me to realise my Heads were warped (not so fantastic). Have had it for a year and have never had a false reading.

    cheers.

We had them in the work toymotas - when heading down the decline they would continously bleep - all the coolant would surge to the front of the tank. when cornering a right hand bend they would go off, as all the coolant surged to the left, the sensor was in the right, rear side of the header tank. It would drive you nuts, as the decline was continous downhill for 8 km and 90
% right hand turns! It was because it used to vent coolant into the overflow, but not suck it back.

Just a personal experiance I thought i would add.

had a reply from David at engine saver indicating the best spot is the thermostat housing as the thread size in the radiator differs

waiting on a price for a new sensor with a longer screw to suit thermostat housing
