08 Puma stub axle thrust ring, oil seal and bearing removal

    G'day Gurus,
I am replacing my front cvs, flanges and half shafts with Ashcroft products. When replacing the cvs I need to change the oil seal to the supplied one. Unfortunately the manual states:
    3. Drill and chisel off thrust ring taking care to avoid damaging
    stub axle.
    4. Remove bearing and oil seal using special tool LRT-37-004
and slide hammer LRT-99-004. Ensure lip of tool locates
behind bearing to drive it out.
    5. Repeat instruction for removal of oil seal.
As I don't have a replacement thrust ring (I can go an buy one on Monday but I would prefer to get it sorted now), is it possible to remove complete the process with out damaging any parts?
I have found these thread do they apply to the Puma?

Sav, front axle on 300Tdi Disco/ Def etc is the same, except you have ABS on the Puma(If 110/90, and doesn't effect this job anyway) the best way of removing the bearing and seal is GENTLY drive a thin bent ended flat bladed screwdriver from the tubed end push them both through. Be gentle and take your time.

Your Puma is the same as a 24 spline 1994 on Defender and D1.

so just to be sure. I have the stub axle removed just used a thin blade tool to tap the oil seal, thrust ring, and bearing out from the back (like in the first and second linK)?

    Cheers

You have a needle roller bearing cage inside the stub axle don't you? With a seal behind it? (Closest to the outside?) If so, just tap the bearing and seal through gently from outside in using a bent ended screwdriver like illustrated. I was thinking early models when I mentioned the bronze thrust ring, I will go back and change my post to be relavent.

there is a needle roller bearing ring closest to the inside (relative the diff) with the thrust ring sitting on the oil seal near the middle of the stub axle. There is no bronze thrust ring. I'll give it a crack and let you know how I go. Thanks for the help.
