    New Windscreen

I got my windscreen replaced today on my 2001 deefa .. Obrian did the work.

I swear this glass is alot thinner than the origional .. and if I press the middle bottom of the windscreen it flex's allot ..

Overall not happy .. anyone else had a new screen by obrian ?

    Thoughts ?

Me tooo, but on an XJ Cherokee. After many years of outback travel and many screen "blemishes" from passing semis throwing up boulders etc, it took a tiny rock thrown up by a passing car on the Newell Hwy to create a crack in the screen.

Went to Obrien. They used Aussie made glass. The quality might have been the same as the original, but the wind noise increased markedly because they did not seal the bottom frame properly. Overall, my vision is clear and when the wipers clean this glass - you hardly notice it is there!

If you are unhappy with your replacement - I would try and get Obrien to talk to LR about sourcing original parts.

From memory I think mine is Pilkington glass and is the authorised replacement to LR spec.

I had mine replaced recently by O'Brien following numerous stone hits. The old screen was pitted and the O'Brien guy reckoned that Land Rover use a "soft" glass for the Defender windscreen.

In any case the new windscreen is much better than the old in that it is much easier to see through due to no pitting. It looks to me to be a direct replacement (i.e. same thickness) for the old rather than some sort of aftermarket replacement.

The only problem I had was that the O'Brien guy removed the old windscreen by kicking it out with his feet while sitting in the driver's seat. He had a padded blanket on the bonnet but he took the windscreen spray nozzle off in the process, something I didn't notice for a couple of weeks. But apart from that nuisance, the new windscreen is a step up from the old.

No matter what the problem - there's a solution. You've just got to find it.
