May be the cap rolled and activated the FOB, still attached to the cap ?
Erich
Went to fill up this morning. Normally I put keys, fuel cap key and fuel cap on top of fuel pump while filling. It had been raining and was wet so I put the lot in driver foot well.
While filling the door slammed shut. Don't you wish they would stay open.
Went to get cap after filling and Defender was locked.
Had to call wife to bring spare.
Has this happened to anyone else and what was the cause/cure.

I was thinking along Erich's line as well. I've had the immobilser activate with the fob in the vicinity but never the central locking.

No, the key wasn't still in the cap, obviously we will never know, but I think in that instance that was very unlikely.
Stopped at the dealer and asked. Never happened before according to them. They gave one suggestion that some spring in the lock mechanism may be weak and released as the door swung shut thus activating central locking.
Of course at home when I have tried to replicate it, it all behaves itself beautifully.
Another frustration.
I think to be safe I may get a key cut and hide it outside the vehicle for if it ever happens again.

Hi,
my D130 Puma did similar to JC while it was down being serviced. Had to run spare keys down to him.
It seems unlikely, but he was using other key fobs on land rovers nearby as he moved vehicles around.
cheers

I did mention this in a post a while back. Didnt quite do the same , but close. Fuelling up in a Hume highway super service station and the car just immobilised itself. Couldnt start it. Moved it out from under the covers where i was re fuelling, as instructed by th local Wallan Mechanic and , hey presto , its starts . Apparently a static electricity biuld up can cause them to do stupid things , like not start , or perhaps lock itself.
Coud this be the cause fo your self locking ?

Who knows.
But there is a pattern forming. Mine also happened at a servo.

This is a common problem in the UK in the winter, when its below freezing the doors dont unlock fully and when they shut it locks them again. The solution is to spray everything up inside the lock and all the linkages with silicone spray. I doubt that your problem is caused by the cold but it could be dust or sand in the locks making them stick? Worth while stripping the door down and spaying it with a light machine oil or silicone to lubricate the lock and linkages.
Pete.
I think the static electricity thing sounds like the best theory. There is a lot of static generated during refuelling. All these new ultra sensitive electronics probably get themselves confused.
