Any one removed a county HVAC Unit? Mine's stuck

    Hi,
I am currently trying to remove the heater core on my '85 V8 county which is locked away inside the plastic heater fan unit.

It is the factory air-con type with the vent controls to the left of the instrument binnacle.

It looks quite is quite different to the later defender unit which looks like a metal box riveted together in the workshop manual I have.

Have removed all of the screws, including the (very) poorly located ones alongside the guard. It wont budge

Are there screws long the front firewall side which it is jambed up against?

Is it easier to remove the whole unit?

Anyone done it and offer some tips before I pull of to many things I don't need to?

Anyone get a a diagram from a workshop manual?

    Thanks

    Clive

Hi Clive, I have put one in my county last year as it was a non AC model. It would be easier if you pull it out. Not that hard either if you don't want the gas in the air con system, or it has none. You have to pull the fan out. There are screws in there as well plus the 2 on the top. If you wish to get the AC going as well it would be a good idea to change the TX valve as well. They do work well if you are willing to spend a little time.Mine works reasonable but didn't change the TX valve ( will do soon ) Most people who have owned a county would disagree. I have also got mine hooked to a 200tdi snorkel for the fresh air.
