    130 Door latch.

Hi all, I am attempting to replace the Driver side front door latch. I have removed the forward door handle retaining screw but the rearward one turns without coming out.If it has stripped the threads in the plastic handle, why can't I just pull the handle off? Is there an insert in the handle which is rotating?I need to remove this to allow the latch mechanism to move forward to clear the door frame. The Rave instructions simply say"unscrew the two retaining screws and remove handle".Any ideas? Thanks in advance.130man.

    Hi,
Yes, I had the same problem with my 2 door handles on thr left side. I was a bit luckly as the handles were broken after a small tap on a tree so I could put pressure on the handle and turn it on a angle to allow me to unscrew the handle.
    cheers

Hi Wes, thanks for your reply.I think I will have to cut off the head of the screw and hope that I can see how to replace it once the handle is off the vehicle. No matter what I have tried, the screw continues to turn but not come out.Very frustrating. Cheers, 130man.

Hi all.Persistence paid of and I was able to get the job done.I now have two new locks installed and, what a difference. The doors close nicely without the slamming of old.I should have done this several years ago instead of fiddling with the strikers plates all the time. Dense, I reckon. Cheers, 130man.

    Dicky doors

Once you get into the trim fasteners, the endless goop sealing the plastic membrane, window motors, window drains and the fiddly connecting rods and get it all back together, there's nothing like having a Defender door close correctly the first time... without the slamming and oftern 'popping' open right back at you.

Have replaced all the latches on the 130 DCPU. The latch sears were well worn away. But just try telling the family they no longer have to slam the doors shut!!!
