    Rear loadspace matting ideas

    Hey guys,

I have taken the rear seats out of the 90 and was wondering what people have done to line the cargo area? I have seen a full heavy duty mat from Roversnorth but its $230 with out delivery!

It's looks to be a genuine part, Where's the best place to get them from? I'm in Brisbane.
I was also just thinking of making one up, get some rubber from clark rubber and stick it down with double sided tape.

    Cheers

I measured out the cargo areas of my last two 110s and went to Clark rubber to get slightly thicker rubber matting that matches the original grooved type. I cut out two sections to wrap over the wheel arch boxes and used contact adhesive to glue high density foam to the underside. I also cut out and loose laid more foam under the main floor mat.

I placed self-adhesive velcro strips along the top and sides of the wheel arch boxes and then carefully positioned the mats over before pressing down. This means the side sections are held firmly in place and fairly neatly wrapped around the box sides but are easily removed for cleaning. Over time the glue on the velcro gets soft and you have to be careful when removing the mats not to pull both sides of the velcro out at once.

The mats don't fit quite as well in the back of post 07MY Defenders because the extra step in the wheel arch box is harder to form to than older square ones.

I cut out the lower sections around the cargo tie-downs and tucked the base under the floor mat. The extra foam under the floor mat means the sides fit under neatly and it all looks fine.

I bought 3mm smooth rubber sheeting and glued it in permanently with contact adhesive, so no rubbish can get in underneath and it's still a hose-out job, plus did wonders for isolating road/rain/other noise. Been in a couple years now and still no hassles.
Another alternative (but more pricey) is to have something similar to a rhino-liner sprayed or painted in - it's tough as anything and will last the lifetime of the vehicle. There are a few threads here somewhere on that....

I have one of those in the back of my 90. The gen ones are nice and has been there for the last 7 years

But they are only £80 in the Uk so worth looking at craddocks and paddocks even more so with the exchange rate. And you can get after Market ones these days

I was also thinking of checkerplating it all with some insualtion underneath but it will make it trick to get the seats back in if I want to put them in.

    Thoughts?

My 90's load space was chequerplated when i got it, it was very noisy,
your sound insulation will help with that, but the main problem was it was very slipery, anything not sercured would slide around alot and anything that does roll around gets damaged from banging into the hard chequerplate

I put down dynomat then a layer of marine carpet. Its *much* quieter and generally much more pleasant than plain metal or rubber.

Sometimes I find myself wanting to lay on it.. it is very welcoming.

The only downside was the cost..

That is what I have in the back of my 110.

Marine carpet. Oil , bleach, mold, resitant, water prof and can be cleaned even with bleach.

But then I am in the flooring industry. So I paid next nothing for this bit for the back of the car
