defender right hand wing vent ???

Hi, I have upgraded on from the 96 300tdi discovery, to a 98, 110 ute. The question i have is why is the right hand wing vent solid. The air intake is set well back in the guard. Is there a reason for the solid vent. if it was open would it help air flow around the engine? Baz

95 defender 110 only one vent is perforated to supply the heater/demister. The other one is solid. Don't belive that either cover would provide engine cooling without other modifications.

    Be careful Baz

It may be a door to the underworld!! The rust may get you.

Have seen in a UK Land Rover magazine, a handy locker made under there.
They used a checkerplate mudguard protector as the lid.

As for improving the engine air flow, that may be a good thing, provided any water is diverted away from the hole and does not create other problems.

    Cheers Arthur

From the factory they are solid but can buy an after Market open one

Some people change them thinking it will cool the engine bay down

On another angle, I was once told that if you blank the left hand one, it helps the aircon work better, as hot air isn't able to get into the cab. They recommended changing the perforated to blank coming into summer, and then back again for winter. Not sure on the accuracy of this claim though.
