Thread: All New Defender - what form and is the current shape the last true one?

If it stays as true as the JK Wrangler did to the TJ Wrangler, then the new LR Defernder will sell like hot cakes...

If it is anything like the FJ Cruiser - then the current Puma will be hot property....

I am not a LR man, but I do recall the final copy of the Rangie that preceded the P38. It was called a CLASSIC, and it sold like hell!

Maybe the final Puma model will be called a CLASSIC?

I'll be sticking to my Isuzu County, but if they have to change the shape, then this is more acceptable than that FJ, Hummer lookalike.......

It will be like new Jags,Astons etc.They are modern shaped vehicles but have traditional styling que's that date back to previous classic models and LR won't want to change that.The P38 and the square headlight Jaguars are good examples of model change's that didn't go down well and LR would know that and won't make that mistake. The "new defender" will have 5 engines! 1 a turbine from the jag concept car supplying 4 separate electric motors powering each wheel so with the "high quality" water sealing that LR are renowned for it will be interesting on water crossings but may be good for fishing, REV the engine and BUZZZZ instant fried fish!

If you get the shiny bling bling front grill and light surrounds painted black to match the rest then, in my opinion, the SVX looks much better.

I bet the new one won't look like any of the concept photo's.I really think LR are going to pull a rabbit out of the hat and it will be very good. Pat

I think we'll find that Range Rover and Land Rover will be seperated further in the very near future, probably before Project Icon is unveiled. This will be due to both the release of the Evoque and later the Defender relaunch. Land Rover has always had very strong branding, but having the Defender alongside the full fat RR is brand dilution to some extent, and will need to be changed.

If what the Land Rover employee who started that thread says is correct, the Freelander/LR2, Disco 4/LR4 and Defender/Icon will be one brand, the Range Rover Vogue, Range Rover Sport and Evoque the other brand.
The original poster on that thread also mentions 2, maybe 3 Defender variants. With the grouping of the Defender/Icon with the LR2/LR4, this sounds to me like there will be a commercial spec version, offering the various cab/chassis, hard top and high cap designs, with the 90, 110 wagon and maybe 110CC a higher spec for the civillian 'lifestyle' market. Funny, this isn't so far off how Merc has organised their commercial and luxury spec G-Wagens.

No matter what happens, I'm with Solmanic and Pat303, the next generation Defender is going to be fantastic. Working from the ground up will result in a better overall package than trying to shoe-horn modern tech and safety necessities into a 60 year old chassis and 50 year old body.
