    Mandatory Stability Control in VIC

How is Land Rover getting around this in VIC?

ESC mandatory from 1 January 2011 : VicRoads

I expect other states will follow suit on this one soon.

Did you look here??? ESC vehicle status : VicRoads

All LR vehicles comply except for defenders, which will (I imagine) be granted an exemption, along with the nissan patrol etc...

Btw - there has already been a thread on this issue.

EDIT - I cannot see how the leaf sprung 7X series cruisers can be certified???

The Defender is classed as a commercial vehicle so it's expempt from certain regulations (like child restraint points).

The list is only of MA, MB, MC cat. vehicles. By "Land Cruiser - all", I assume they're referring only to MC cat. LCs (ie all of the 200 range).

The 7X series certainly don't comply but I think they're under cat NA (same as the Defender which is why it isnt listed).

I thought "FJ landcruiser" down the bottom meant the 7X series - however google reveals it to be the ugly retro style thing.

This must mean that defenders and 7X cruisers are classified as commercial vehicles???

I would say so. By 7X I assume you mean 76, 78 and 79 series.

Might be interested to read article in Royalauto (Victoria's RACV magazine). They are pushing to make mandatory in all vehicles but currently commercial are exempt.
