Range reduced on new fuel tank

My Defender decided to take a pee on the driveway and it ended up being the fuel tank leaking between the tank and the bash plate. I have since put a new fuel tank on however with the old tabk I used to get 550k's before having to fill it up. Now since the new tank is on it only does 220k's before it splutters or becomes difficult to start, well turns over four to five times and fires, rather than the usual once. I know the top of the tank was slightly bent on top and it is the same size as the other one, can I rectify this without removing the fuel tank.

    Thanks in advance Mark

mate, i'm far from an expert, but if the tank is the same size (visually) then perhaps it's the fuel pick up that's not in the right place?

    Does it breathe correctly?

If you have a strong suction present when removing the fuel cap then this could be your problem.

The fuel cap doesn't suck in but I measure the am,ount of fuel in and it still works out the same 9-10l per 100k's, So it doesn't use extra fuel, I will probably have to take the tank out againe and place the fuel gauge in first then the return pipe, I will see on monday and try again, as I must of done something wrong!

Did you change your fuel filter recently just in case you have some remnants of fuel tank production in the lines ?

Found the problem, It was the connection between the sender's plastic plate and the metal plate was loose and when it had got below the sender unit, it was sucking air, I have now replaced it and now getting the range what I was previously doing. Lesson is not to force the sender into the tank if it is sticking.

    Thanks to all.
