Dual Batteries

I've managed to fit 2 N70ZZ batteries under the seat, in the afore mentioned side by side configuration.

I left all the (300Tdi) A/C electrical relays in situ, but it was so tight I had to remove the rear 2 relays in order to slide the 2nd battery in, then put them back in place. As a result the earth terminals are under the outer edge / lip of the battery box, which makes them inaccessible. I've run battery and winch cables to the earth terminals, but then have used a copper block to create an earth bus centrally, for all the smaller wires.

A dual battery splitter (SC80) & 2nd battery jumpstarting relay & winch relay are located toward the back of the box.

I use a sheet of closed cell foam rubber as a cover under the lid, lest something works its way loose and arcs on the lid. The terminals for the 2nd battery are very close to the top, due to the taper on the seatbox.

Ideally I would get an X-box (Mulgo) and relocate all the A/C electrics there, as well as have a dedicated 2nd fuse box for all the other electric leads that now run to the battery box.

If you can pop down Perth (just because everything is unavailable or price prohibitive here in the pilbara) get yourself dual battery kit and some AGM batteries I went for some optima's (red for cranking, yellow for accessories) and also a redarc dual battery system easier enough to fit from the wiring diagram, and I reckon it was all about $700-800 from Battery world osbourne park.
Possibly not the cheapest way to go, but I couldn't be arsed to **** around with shopping that day.
I am off to perth to collect my belongings within a few weeks and they will get shipped back to Karratha by removalists, if that is any help to you!
I don't mind getting my mate roped in to collect the stuff if you have it paid for in advance, and I'll chuck it in with my belongings

Is it common to have a hole at the bottom of the battery area below the passenger seat? My 110 does and it lets heap of dust, sand and crap in. Thinking about bogging it unless there is a heat dissipation reason for this.

I have already got all the gear to put it in i just bought a povo pack on E-bay redarc system and i have a battery to do the job only thing i need is a battery plate that i think ill make my self.

It's for the gasses venting from the battery - obviously if it isn't a sealed battery etc

Here is mine currently. With a voltage sensing relay to switch the solenoid.

How much clearance have you got between the terminals and the slide cover?and what sort of batteries are they?

I have a start battery and a deep cycle one to run all the accessories like fridge, invertor, HF radio etc. I have a Piranah control stsyem and despite some of the negative things I have read about these on this site, I have had no problems with this set up on trips on the Madigan Line, Batton Hill to Birdsville, The Flinders and Cape York.

If you want to get a tried and true dual system look at traxide tronics, Tim is Drivesafe on the forum and he produces a system for every rover on the market, comes complete with cd with instructions on and easy to follow.
