85 County Heater and a/c unit

The heater / a/c on our 85 County is missing.

The compressor is still there but the fan and coil unit has gone

Where is the best spot to buy one eco'd or which is the best section to post a wanted in Markets?

Is it an engine part or an internal part or an external part or a body bit ???

We are weighing up a few vehicle options but I think I'll stick with the County for now.

We were thinking of turboing the Isuzu motor but as a start I probably need to get a heater and a/c and upgrade the seating for to see if I can get the GLW comfy in it with her bad back before I throw lots more $ at it.

I understand that the OE unit was infamously inadequate.

So has any one come up with a good cheap /viable alternative

Heater/aircon unit also makes putting a turbo on difficult, the end of the box is right where the turbo would go.

Not uncommon to replace with a Defender heater - which sits close up against the bulkhead.

And add an aftermarket A/C unit - common solutions there are like JDNSW's tractor unit between front seats. Roof mounted above rear door. Defender under dash unit - although probably the worst performing choice, and reduces legroom for passenger.

As Abbadonxi says, std County heater/aircon and Isusu turbo don't go together well, although the County aircon can be made to work well with a bit of effort.
I don't understand why the Defender aircon has such a bad name - I have owned a 97 Defender, and looked after a 96 Defender for some years and both had aircon which worked very well indeed. My 97 would happily hold 20deg inside in 40deg+ ambient for hours.

Anyway the Defender unit would be easier to fit if you can find one.

If you fit the turbo on the right hand side you can have the A/C + turbo. I think Bearman has this setup, and I believe there is a chap in BNE who is still doing this conversion, drive in / drive out but it's not cheap.

I will be contacting him soon to see if he can do a kit for me.. but it is alleged to be a less efficient setup.

Definitely is NOT less efficient. It works as good as a manifold mounted turbo and you can still retain the original aircon setup!
