200 TDI Temp Probe Thread Size

    Hi friends,
My water temp gauge has been out of order for some time now and I've decided on a good digital replacement but just gotta work out the thread size of the probe insert on the thermostat housing.

    Anyone know??

    Thanks

Gonna have a stab and call it M10 by 1.0
Thats what is in the 300tdi - pretty standard sized gauge sender thread?
Easy enough to pull out and check though?

If it is VDO senders will screw straight in, they can be had in M10 by 1.0

thanks roverrescue, i'll have an ask around n see if i can get a replacement probe in that thread size. the one thats broken had some sort of copper capillary tube inside the cable running to it. I'm gonna go a digital gauge and put something else useful in the round hole in my dash...
Can you get a rev tacho for a 200tdi??

I just had a look under my friends bonnet and see his temp probe is a much smaller diameter plug.
probably 10mm like you mentioned, Mine is way bigger, maybe 15...
I guess I'll have to pull it out and plug the hole while I go get it sussed out...

200TDI Defender coolant temperature senders use a 5/8"-18 UNF thread. VDO have direct replacements that fit straight in.

VDO vision gauges look really good and can replace everything.

I've found that the 5/8-18 UNF Thread is inside a thread adapter in my case. The VDO gauge does look ok, but I would really rather put a rev gauge in there and I've got my eye on a great digital temp reader that will give me highly accurate readings.

Does anyone know what the original thread size that this adapter is screwed into would be - 5/8 thread is no use to me unless I go the VDO gauge.

    Thanks.

    wrong again!

EDIT- Wrong again - it's not a thread converter, the temp probe i've got that's broken, is actually a two piece unit that has a nut screwed in to hold the sender into the front threaded bit, which looks like a converter. but both have the same thread!!
stupid me. So yeah, it's a 5/8-18 UNF thread.
