Defender CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System)

    Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone makes a aftermarket CTIS system for the defender. I know it's not necessary, but it seems like a cool thing to have :P

'OilWorker' has them on his 130CC that has Bolt on Portals

thats an expensive option, but from what I gather, trying to add CTIS is generally always going to be expensive.

I've seen a system that ran a hose to the hub, outside of the wheel (I'd be worried about ripping it off on a root on a tight track though )

CTIS is relatively simple with portals, but for straight axles, aside from the external system you mentioned that are commonly used on log hauling trucks out my way,the system would be complicated and maybe not too reliable.
I do recall that Timken Bearings in the US a few years ago made available special hub bearings that had a groove on the ID that allowed a thin air tube to be run along the length of the spindle out to a rotary air coupling inside the halfshaft drive flange and then out through the flange up to the tyre valve stem. Check out the US Pirate4x4.com forum and post an enquiry there if a 'search' doesn'tthrow up the information you require.

    I tend to agree.

What I do find interesting, is that they show it fitted to a rural fire fighting appliance. I would hope that if a supply line is ripped out, that there would be a system in place to prevent de-flation.

a company called Toad Security in the UK used to do run-flat inserts and a CTIS system, brochures at the time had photos of thier systems installed on defenders, but this was 13-15 years ago

I'd hope they could do away the external airline if one had portal axels...
