I'm interested in how it goes. As a former resident of Palmerston there are some good places to take the ol-truck for a play but never go alone and never ever leave your car or you'll return to a upside down burnt out wreck.

Well I’m not sure if I have done the right thin or not, but I was in supercrap the other day and they had some el-cheapo winches for $550 including a recovery kit.
The winch is 9500lbs and the recovery kit contained a extension strap, tree protector, a few shackles and some gloves.
I have managed to making through the last 10 years or so of Land Rover ownership without one up until now but have always had a friend along for “just in case” but now I have moved to Darwin I don’t have many mates to go 4WDing and Camping with, so I thought for $550 it is worth a go.
It is packed well and came with all the usual bits and pieces.
After unpacking it all I decided that the best thing to do would be to give it a once over and at first inspection it seemed ok.
There appeared to be plenty of grease every where and O-rings and seals in all ther right places.
Then I started looking a little deeper and found that the seals and o-rings had no grease around them and half the bolts holding it together were loose.
So after an hour or so of stuffing around, pulling off every thing I could and regreasing it all I reckon the little thing should probably keep the water out.
So Its all back together and ready to be fitted… now I just have to get some time.
I will keep you updated after the install and as to its performance and longevity.

now,now easo, palmy has been quite good since you left![]()
that looks exactly the same as the winch i bought from aldi last year, all i did was take it apart, regrease and re-assemble it and it has been faultless for me so far
Does it come with a wireless remote or only the tethered remote?
Only came with a wired remote...![]()
Now just waiting for one of drivesafe's new dual battery systems to arrive and I will be ready to wire everything up.

I love it when the wife has given me permission to buy a few extras... I'm not sure why but she has told me that I can get a dual batt, winch and raised air intake....
hmmm maybe I should ask if i can get a camper trailer aswell

You can make any winch wireless very easily for next to nothing -
Generic Winch ATV Wireless Remote Control Kit Switch DV | eBay
$25 - bargain and it makes life A LOT easier. Very easy 3 or 4 wires to hook up, 2 minute job.
Also, ensure your solenoid box is waterproof. My "waterproof" Ironman 9500lb control box was half full of water the other day, wireless controller is stuffed, lucky the solenoids still work but are heavily corroded.
I bought sealed solenoids off ebay along with one of these wireless controllers (will run a bead of silicone around the small electronic box join as well), bada bing, better than original.
I've also got one of those supercrap winches which I'm about to fit but have already done a bit of a grease and oil change (yeah, without the oil) but I was wondering how far you should really go with the stripdown. I didn't pull the gearbox apart as I probably should have but I was scared of springloaded bits and pieces jumping out at me and then not being able to reassemble it. Are there any tricks to the regrease?
thanks gerald
Hi Didge
The hardest bit to put back together was the engage/free wheel lever and the centre shaft that connects the motor to the gearbox, the rest was pretty easy. just take lots of photos. Otherwise I just removed the old grease and put a heap of new grease in.
For those that are interested, the dual battery system arrived and is now installed, along with the winch. And following Scouse's advise, I asked for a camper trailer and she said yes(I know the rules, photos to follow)
