Took my vehicle into the dealers in Brisbane to have the 20,000 k service done, had a phone call to say that the rear pinion seal needed replacing, and the air breather for the fuel tank needed replacing, these are being done under warranty. It is taking 2 days to fix these and do the 20,000 k service, is this normal for them to take so long. The best bit was I asked for the left hand headlight lens which was broken and if they would replace it, when they gave me the price for the head light was over $400.00. So it looks like I will be replacing the light myself. Is this hard to do. So it looks like I will be replacing the light myself. Is this hard to do.

Last time I had the dealer replace a headlamp lens it was less than $100. I'd buy the parts from one of the UK parts places and have it shipped out. Reckon you could get a headlamp for $10-$20.

My last service on my 2008Puma Defender took 6 weeks.... Mind you they had some significant body/water leak issues to sort out.

					Hi Disco96,

Sounds pricey for a headlight, but I had exactly the same other two issues with my 110. I rekon the reason it's taking two days is they need to get the parts for the rear diff cause the breather problem is i think literally cutting the 1" or so breather hose a bit shorter so that it doesn't kink. It took a few days to get the parts for mine, although i still had it while the parts were coming in. They had a few cracks at fixing the leak on mine by just replacing the pinion seal each time, but then the leak would start pretty soon after, the third time they put a new 'design' (this is what i was told anyway) pinion flange and seal on and since then it's been great.

 Cheers,
 Chris

Thanks guys, had a phone call from the dealers this morning to say that the parts hadn't come up from Melbourne yet. They reckon they had been ringing around the other dealers to see if they had the parts in stock. Offered to lend me a car for the night, pick it up late today and give it back early tomorrow morning, isn't that great of them. So another day down here in the big smoke. I need the car back to get home as we have things planned for this weekend. I wish they were the self levelling type Scouse, are they not just a 7in standard round headlight.

 Thanks
 Geoff.

Sounds a bit rough to me. The headlights are a very standard size and can be bought from most auto suppliers. In saying that I put a Narva light in mine when it was cracked (easy job to do by the way) the Narva light was not the same nice white/blue light output of the OEM light ie it have a lower colour temp rating. I am sure with a bit more research it would not be hard to find the right one.
As for the fuel breather these too are very simple unless it has broken at the tank. I extended mine with some pipe I had up into the rear cabin. Cost me nothing and took about 1 hour (and that was slow).
Do get me wrong I am a big fan of the dealers servicing as they use all the right parts etc. but you do have to keep them honest and question what they are doing especially when it gets out of warrenty, things can get real expensive real fast! Have a good friendly relation, open and honest and they'll look after you and your car.

 Cheers,
