Hi folks can anybody see an issue with mounting the relays to the firewall in the engine bay in front of the passenger seat? There is not a bad little space there.. could even place a couple of rivnuts in the firewall if possible to get in there with a tool. Not sure whether the firewall material is steel or aluminium? There is a bolt there you could use to mount a bracket to.. or you could mount them directly to the firewall? Wonder if anybody has any experience with what’s happening in the firewall there or any other problems to be aware of. Thanks

Should be no issues, I like the idea of the rivnuts, you have just made me rethink where I will put my relays. Currently, they are just "dangling" in the engine bay on a peace of aluminium.Quote:

I unscrewed the plastic cover on the wing top and mounted mine on the inner wing, also installed a six blade fuse holder and earth bar there so no multiple cables run to the battery for any accessorys needed in the future. Put the plastic cover back nice and tidy job.

Nothing has moved yet but I am always thinking I'd like to move them to somewhere else. I think under the R/H guard would be better but advice on install is not to lengthen the wiring
I mounted mine on the guard liner under the false air vent on the drivers side and the cabling supplied in the Traxide kit was millimetre perfect for that location, anywhere else and I would have had to shorten the power supply cable.Quote:

Mine is Td5, but no real difference. I mounted mine on the inner guard drivers side under the blank air intake plate and instead of running the power cable from the battery, I took power from the starter motor so it's all on the same side. I have done this on 2 vehicles with no issues.
thanks for the posts, folks. i stuck with the firewall spot - fiddly job!!! Will send pics of the finished job. After doing it all i'd probably go with the behind-the-headlight option next time, would result in less wires running more distance
does anybody know where there is a good hole in the firewall, so i can run the wire for the switch to near the steering wheel?

Getting the switch wiring through the fire wall was an interesting
exercise involving poking a straightened coat hanger through the large grommit pointing to the center of the vehicle. and then feeling for it as it hit the console (much luck involved there and a two person job). Taped the figure 8 wire to the coat hanger and pulled it through the firewall.
