    UK Recall for 130..

    Land Rover chassis recall

    May 11, 2011 | Comments (0)

As a follow up to our report on a number of chassis failures on Land Rovers fitted with aerial lifts, the manufacturer has now released a “No charge customer satisfaction programme” for Land Rover Defender 130s built between 2007 and 2011 and fitted with a 13.5 metre platform.

The bulletin highlights a weakness around a hexagonal hole in the chassis behind the cab and calls for substantial chassis reinforcement plates to be installed. The recall is free of charge and is estimated to take seven and a half hours.

If you have one of these platforms and have not heard from the supplier of the platform or a Land Rover dealer then we would recommend you contact your nearest Land Rover dealer and quote Programme number Q135.

Chassis cracking is something that I use to get quite distressed about basically disposing of a vehicle once it cracked the chassis.
I have a friend in Alice Springs who spent most of the last 30 years welding up chassis and he convinced me that it isnt a big deal repair it properly and it will go on for years.
Pretty well all the Road Trains in Alice Springs that either drove to the East or West had broken their chassis at some point
I remember having a Unimog in the workshop that was broken in halves he walked in and within a couple of hours it was as good as new.
I think the repair needs to be done by those who know what they are doing, nothing to stress about.
I guess it also depends on the authorities as to what you need to do legally
