I also have the BAS remap - Orxy now goes like the clappers.
I requested 2 maps from Pete: a tuned one and a standard map with EGR-shut. I ran the standard EGR-shut map on a 6000km trip to Namibia and got average consumption of 10.4l/100km. Not bad considering a 500kg load with RTT on top.
For everyday use I run the tuned map, and it goes like a bomb. I really have to resist the urge to race hatchbacks at the traffic lights
Couple of issues though:
1. The standard map has a flat spot in 6th gear, so the tuned map accentuates this. Not much Pete can do from 10,000km away, so I have to live with it.
2. When I run the tuned map, there is coolant loss. I'm not sure where this is occurring, probably increased temperature in the head causes it to distort slightly & coolant evaporates?
Hey Naks,
I have read some of your posts on Defener2, it seem that your coolant use is an isolated case ?
Has Pete offered any possible causes or solutions ?
Have you ruled out the EGR ?
I recall someone stating that it is actually liquid cooled. ?
Thanks for your post all info is good at this early stage.
Cheers
A bit difficult for Pete to diagnose the coolant loss. It could be the EGR - there is an assembly part that needs to be replaced on the EGR next week, it could be where the coolant is going.
But strange that it only loses coolant when running the tuned map - I can only conclude that the higher EGTs and head temps are causing this. Although I find that the EGT comes down MUCH quicker when I run the tuned map compared to the OEM & EGR-shut maps.
Hey Naks,
Certainly interesting and please keep us up dated on the outcome of the repairs to EGR assembly next week.
I would be very surprised if coolant use was caused by a distortion of the head, I think that if that was the cause it would quickly leads to terminal problems.
Cheers
Well, got the PUMA back today and took straight to it with a couple of spanners....
Old intercooler out - (certainly some difference to the New Allisport version).

Standard programme already EMailed to Pete Bell...now just waiting for "Tuned" programme to come back.
very interested to see the outcome, i am keen to buy a puma very soon, but have my doubts about their performance....
Looking forward to your report, I am thinking this is the way to go.

Well I got the Map back from Bell Auto Services this morning.
Down loaded the map onto the BAS device and have now uploaded it onto the ECU.

Just took it out for quick test run and the difference is unbelievable, the motor has been so freed up it is hard to believe that it is the same engine.
Power develops immediately in the low gears and will pull 4th, comfortable keeping up with the traffic from 1450rpms/40k's. It so much more drivable than before, without using any effort.
Power is delivery is very smooth but will come on strong if the pedal is pushed down. I have only been to 3000rpm's and that is plenty.
Ordinary driving I find that I am barley touching the gas pedal for same result as where before I was using 3-5cm of down travel. So fuel consumption just might improve.
Going away this weekend so I will have a better chance to play and check out fuel economy and power increases at different revs on different inclines.
Cheers
Sounds extremely promising. I’ll be watching this thread with much anticipation to see how your trip goes. Good Luck and thanks for all the updates. [thumbsupbig]
Cheers:twobeers:
