    Oil TD5

Yes I've done a search and found many threads on the subject, but by the time I sort out all the topic's on diff and axle oil, well it tell's me nothing.
So I'll ask anyway........What oil should be used in a TD5?
I've been doing my own oil changes 5/30w but now it's just getting to expensive to use and run around trying to get it at a good price, so am I wasting my time using this grade of oil or can I get away with a different grade (cheaper) oil?

I use the nulon stuff, you should be able to get it at any super cheap, repco, autopro, autobarn and a lot of servos.

in melbourne you should be able to use any of the synthetics from 5/30, 0/40 and 10/40 without any problems, just dont mix the grades/breeds.

Repco are using Penrite oils apparently in their self branded products at the moment, if they do a 5w30 or 40 , it may pay to stockpile some...

    Engine oil isn't that exxy.

I'm buying a full syn heavy duty diesel 10W-40, 20l for $165 ATM, walk in off the street price at a small independent parts store in the country where things are always dearer.

Even if you are only doing 10,000km oil changes it's cheap insurance.

I Use Castrol 0W40 it's a good oil and don't have problems getting it. Only sold in 5L containers but.
I do oil and filters every 10K. (Or before long trips regardless).

I always use the manufacturers specs as a minimum guide that includes the climate recommendations.
If you are keeping the vehicle long term and you want the engine to last it just isnt worth cutting corners on oils.
As noted in earlier posts buy in bulk oil is pretty cheap if you get it in 20L drums.
