    TD5 Defender radiator replacement

    Hi All
Has anybody replaced a radiator in a TD5 defender is it straight forward or is there a lot of equipment to remove. I think I read somewhere that you need to remove the head lights, is this true. any hints would be appreciated.

    Regards
    Mike

I just did it and found that it was a bugger of a job.
Dont remove the headlights take off the front grill the fan and the plate that the bonnet catch is on.
Once this has been done its pretty straight forward.

just done it and its not that hard.. and no you dont need to remove the headlights..

drain coolant, take the fan shroud off, the grille off, the front cross beam or whatever its called, the side support plates attached to the inside of the wings, unclip the pipes (good luck!) inclusive of intercooler pipes (its all attached to the radiator not sure if you can remove it without the intercooler, i was replacing mine too...) probably some more stuff to remove.. but thn pull the whole lot out upwards.. being careful not to damage anything!

you may want to look at replacing some pipes too... as a general overhaul..

i'm sure i have missed heaps.. but if i can do it.....

    How good is this forum!!!!!!!
I have a radiator and some snazzy silicon pipes (for the intercooler and radiator) sitting here and it needs to be done soon - and along comes this thread - absolute magic!
My question though - does the aircon radiator need to be moved as well to get to the radiator? I'll be taking the intercooler out anyway as it needs a clean..... The less dismantling there is the better I reckon...
Thanks for the info so far, gives me hope and incentive to do it (although I will ask for help from my more "mechanically minded" mates)

No need to remove condenser might be wise to redo the rivets that hold the condenser in if it's been on corrugations

its not a short job i have just finished getting it all out i wish i had looked at this post sooner would of saved some time

i removed the cross brace that holds the bonnet latch to give myself enough room as i found the A/C did not give me enough room. When removing the cross brace i removed the 2 lower bolts that hold the guard on to free it all up a little bit.
