LT95 has a one piece case.

AFAIK they commonly pump oil from the gearbox to the t-case. Are you sure your gearbox isn't low and your t-case overfilled?

Front output seal is not hard to do.

Is it a four speed? If so the gear box and transfer are one casing (separate oil).

When people refer to the front output shaft I'd say they are talking about the shaft/flange that connects to the front propshaft via a universal joint. Not a difficult area to work on, you should be able to see if it is leaking from there before you have to pull anything apart.

Check the Gbox level, as already said, the oil can migrate from the gbox to the TCase.

Yes mine is a four speed and yes I have now realised shes all one wopping big unit. No seperate transfer case!! Though the casing around the "output shaft" seems to bolt off??

Ok so I wrapped the CDL vaccum in plastic and there is definitely NO oil comming out of it, nor should there be, now that I undestand how it works. I tested it and the diaphram is fine and it engages perfectly. The oil seems to be spraying from behind the shaft that that bolts up to the Uni Joint. I asume there is a bearing and oil seal infront of the locking gears ? And it's coming from there??

One very very kind member near brisbane has offered me a hand to get a look over it, his friend being a LR mechanic and specialising in gearboxes. So Im just going to keep a close eye on my oil levels and call him when I'm heading towards Brisbane. This has releived my worries no end!!

Got to love the Landrover community. Cheers everyone!

    Garth.

Hi Garth, That will be the front output shaft seal leaking. There are 2 types of seal you can get for this shaft. The first one is part number 571175 and the other one is a double lipped seal part number FTC5258. Buy the later type if you can get one (FTC5258)otherwise go the original. even they will last a long time. If you have trouble finding one give me a PM as I have some here. Not a big job to replace especially with the help you have lined up.
P.S.:::: Make sure you use engine oil and not heavy gear oils in both the gearbox and transfer case.

The FTC 5258 also is the differential pinion seal for late RRC, Disco 1, 2 and Defender (rover diffs only) IIRC Brian.

BTW, Robs truck is up and going, its nice driving a 83,000km old turboed Isuzu 120 around, in my opinion it is a way better ride than a new Puma

I have to ring you about it, can I call you tomorrow?

If it is the same as a defender then no it is not a hard job - almost side of the road stuff.
    Have a look at this

Not quite the same as it is an LT95 not an LT230. Your reference parts and pictures refer to the LT230. Still a pretty easy roadside job. But a different seal part number and don't use 80/90 gear oil.
