    Odd Clutch Behaviour

    Hi Guys,

The other day, while driving in traffic the friction point on the clutch of my 86 Isuzu 110 suddenly went to the floor. I could change gears only if the clutch was totally depressed and at the floor but even then it dragged a little and crunched in reverse.

I got it home, checked fluids and leaks.. full and none (that I could see). I then started to get stroppy that It could be the fork as I only recently (20 000km ago) had a new clutch put in.

I drove it again a bit today, and while I was driving it went back to normal again. Same old friction point (about half way up) reverse is fine, no probs.

Now I'm freaking out a little... Does this mean the master cylinder is playing up?

Most likely to be the centre valve on the master cylinder not always sealing is my guess, seeing it came good. It is possible it is a bit of dirt on the valve seat and it won't do it again - but I would not count on that, more likely the rubber has lost its spring, possibly due to very slight hydrocarbon contamination.. I would replace the m/c before it really quits. They are pretty cheap from your nearest trailer parts place, 'bout a one hour job if nothing is rusted up.

yep, fill valve on the MC is on the way out so its recirculating. But do the MC and the SC at the same time... whatevers caused the rubber in the MC to go odd wont be far away from causing all the other rubber bits to go as well. Carefully check the flex hose as well.

My 130 did the same and it was the slave cylinder.

All it takes is oily hands when working on the hydraulics!
