    Post 300tdi Oil Leak

    Hello All,

Some time ago (about 8,000km ago) I noticed a new oil leak starting to leave a trace under the the old Skank Whistle after it had been parked for a day or so. I noticed a small line of oil running down the side of the oil filter from where it would drip onto the front axle and then drip from the front diff onto the ground.

I initially thought, because the last service was done only a week or so before, that the oil filter was just a bit loose so I tightened it a bit (couldn't get much more) and cleaned it up. The leak still persisted and, no matter what angle I look at the filter seal from, it still looks as if this is the source of the leak. That filter has since been changed and tightened properly and the leak now seems to be getting worse.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

I have a similar leak, mine is form the oil cooler thermostat housing, or the oil pressure sender, both of which sould be easily fixed with new 'O'rings.

Saw one like this last week. Lie under the front with a torch, engine idling. If it's the oil pressure switch (as the one I saw was) then oil will well up around the plastic section of the oil pressure switch and drip on to the filter seal area. Hard to spot from any other angle. Easy to replace.
