From memory you have to take the radio out and disconnect the aerial from the back. Then pull it through to the guard.
I replaced mine with a mobile one flexible aerial. I can unscrew if need and I get better reception. Also if I snap the aerial I just replace the whip no need to retrace the cable.
Tip once you gain access to the back of the radio I'd cut the fitting off and then tape the "new" cable to it and pull them both through. A bit of detergent on the cable also helps it pull through.
