Defender sound insulation - what to use/where to buy?

Hi all

I know this a popular thread and there are many posts about it. I am just trying to find out where to buy it.

I have found this one on ebay:

Body Deadener Sound Heat Proofing EPDM Aluminium Foil | eBay

This one is +/- 5mm thick

Or this one:

The one from Whitworths is +/- 25mm thick

I bought 10mm foil backed, non-adhesive stuff by the metre from Clark Rubber and attached it with 25mm self adhesive Velcro so it can be removed for cleaning and corrosion inspection. Stuck it both sides of the firewall (rated to 105 degrees). I think it was about $30/linear metre (1100 or 1200mm wide - can't remember). I'm sure there are other more trade/industrial type places that would have it cheaper (UES perhaps?). Clark Rubber is more the Mum and Dad/retail type supplier.

Clark rubber is rudely expensive and their prices vary throughout different parts of Sydney - they lost my business a long time ago.

I agree. I only go there when I'm desperate, or too lazy to look around.

I have recently gone through a similar process. There are a number of suppliers and many different materials, some great and some not so good. Also a huge price range.

I used a product from a company Thermotech, here in Sydney. They had a minimum order quantity of $300, which bought 3 rolls of sound reducing material. One roll is almost enough to complete 1 vehicle and I have completed 2 Defenders to date.

got mine from local,,,,,holden dealers

original equip for their ute/ fuel tank heat issue..

sticky back reflective strips ,,,,,,,good price ,,,,,,,easy to apply......all up doing rhs g-box tunnel and rh f-wall hand brake area.......cost me apprx 35-40$

Andrew, try these guys

You may to go there, but they have 5 or 6 sound proofing materials. I think two thickness in that silver foil your looking for.
They also have the vinyl matt with the foam behind it that matches Defer original sound proofing.

I bought self adhesive 5mm nylon faced foam which worked well. It's sold as under bonnet sound and heat insulation. $55 1500x1000 per roll. sticks well and pliable.

I don't think they are out there on their pricing, but for me it was about convenience as they are just around the corner.
