Taking the CAT out of PUMA

Well, installed a Terra Firma De-Cat pipe yesterday and went for a 160k test drive to day.
What a difference, Early advantages are -
1/ Smoother, crisper power from low revs and right across the rev range,
2/ Noticeable reduced heat build up in seat box and hand brake lever,
3/ Appears to better fuel economy
    4/ Lower EGT’s
    Cheers

    Hey Nak’s,

I have still got about 10 weeks of warranty left, but I just couldn’t wait…

I have done a few things over the last couple of years that could potentially negate warranty claims, but the Stealer hasn’t mentioned them and my warranty repairs continue.

    Cheers

Hi Drover, did you remove the centre muffler as well or is that to come?

    Hi Allan,

No, I left the centre muffler in place and do not have any plans to remove it.

I wasn’t looking for extra power and certainly do not want a loud exhaust. The aim was to reduce EGT's, with the new map and intercooler.

Of course now it is in, it has made extra power and flattered off the power curves very nicely.

I haven't fitted an EGT gage yet and removing the cat was the best advice I could get on how to lower those temps.

Pete Bell has assure me that there is no issue with EGT’s in his testing but as I tow a van from time to time, I find that I am using large throttle openings for up hills and just want to be safe as possible.

    Cheers

    Hi Pat,

It was a bit of a squeeze, the cat is huge.

I started by removing all of the heat shields, brackets & then the front prop shaft.

I cut the engine pipe about 20cm below the cat and with a bit of a wiggle out it came.

The De-Cat pipe slipped straight in, bolted up and then fabricated new brackets to hold the heat shields.

    Cheers
