    Defender 130 rear window

    Has anyone removed the sliding glass rear window and put solid glass in its place? On my 130 the sliding glass is a source of rattles and water leaks. The rear window is largely irrelivant with the tradies pod on the back anyway although I may at times remove the pod so still need glass there.

    Hi Graz

    Good idea!

    A window pane from a industrial machine would be the go, along with its sealing rubber to mount it.
    Maybe check out the windows in some of the more popular excavators.

    Or get a quote from one of the windscreen replacement mobs to make and fit, may not be too expensive as it is flat glass.

    Insurance? you did say it was broken, leaks and rattles!

    Go to one of the glass places like Windscreens O'Brien. Give them a call because not all of them cut flat laminated glass. Then fit the pane with key rubber. A good security tip is to fit the "key strip" to the inside, that way Mr Lightfingers can't pull out the key and push the window in.

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    I was thinking along similar lines, but after reading about it on here, just replaced the felt the glass is meant to slide on with Bailey Channel 350.360 (I got mine from Spectrum Rubber) and I've never thought about it again. In my case, the fit was so tight when I first fitted it, I wouldn't want to open it anyway - it required quite a bit of force to get it shut. Not sure what its like now - but I have no need to open it to see.

    Ditto re changing the Bailey Channel.

    Did it years ago (can't remember the section type, IIRC it was a Rare Spares part #) and no more rattles.

    My best mate used to ride where the back seat is, she had her bed there so i needed to open the back windows.
