    Low Kilometer Insurance for Defender

Can anyone recommend an insurer that will offer a discount for low kilometers on a '95 Defender.

Having a company car means the Defender doesn't get used that much so I'm looking to reduce the cost of insurance.
RACV Classic insurance have quoted $535 for $12,000 agreed value which is a bit cheaper than the company I have been using (who will only insure for 'market value') maximum 9,000 kilometers per year . They throw in Total Care and the excess isn't too high.

Has anyone had a better deal ????

I have my 1994 Tdi ute with Shannons for a bit less than $400/year on a "limited use" policy of 2-3 days per week. The agreed value isn't as high as what you have though. Excess is $450.

    Gromit,

I would give Alliance a call as well. My Defender 90's not in the same profile and age range as your's, but the premium is lower than any I could find elsewhere.

I live in a cyclone zone and I've specified $10,000.00 worth of extras on the 2010 Puma (Agreed value of $50,000.00 or replacement with a new one if written off) plus a host of extras like 3 week car hire while being repaired etc. My annual premium is only around $250 more than what RACV Classic quoted you!

I'm paying about $750 for Fully Comp on a $47K Ford Territory used every single day but they want $535 for $12K agreed value on a Defender that's used once in a blue moon.
My 1956 Series 1 is on a RACV Classic policy agreed value 3K and that costs $100 which I'm happy with.
One plus with the RACV Classic insurance is that you retain ownership of the vehicle in the event of an accident but I still struggle to justify the price.

Slight change of topic, but who can go the lowest k's for a fully registered vehicle for a year. I took my big truck for heavy vehicle inspection 27 k's from my place this morning, and noted that it had done 67 km since last inspection same time last year, which got me thinking 27 home last year, 27 there leaves 15km unnaccounted for...... But luckily, I remembered that I took it for a spin to the shops in April to turn the wheels and gears.

It costs $1050 for greenslip, and about $20 per month for third party property. Which is still way way cheaper than 30 cubic metres of storage space at "sheds are us".

And it failed for a swaybar bush ($7.00 and two days to order in) and park light which was working before I left home!?!.. Still cheap.

    Cheers,

    Gumnut

Just got round to chasing this up again (because the insurance is due !!)

RACV classic & vintage insurance is actually via NRMA. Cannot retain salvage rights unless older than 1980.
Shannons the vehicle needs to be more than 35 years old to retain the salvage rights.

With a Defender typically being rebuildable after a 'writeoff' accident I want to retain ownership of the vehicle. I'm still checking around but looks like this may be an issue....

Anyone know of a company that will do low kilometer insurance for a '95 Defender where you retain salvage rights..... ?

TCIS insurance are brokers who offer specialty 4wd insurance with salvage etc. Their premiums went up a bit for my Jeep and when I complained they did suggest that if it was only a weekend car they might be able to offer something. At the time it was a daily driver (pre-Defender) so I ended up switching to DGA who also do a 4WD policy. They are a broker also. Each year my Jeep policy was actually underwritten by Lumleys or other classic insurers.

I still have my Jeep so hopefully this year I can find a low mileage policy too. I can get one for my dirt bike easily.

Or you could try the pay as you drive insurers.

    cheers
    Matt
