And I carry a spare vacuum pump and gasket....... :D
Wow, sounds like a Landrover Vs Toyota discussion ,
If a Puma wont need spare parts or dont breakdown, and quiet comfort / nice dash / ventillation , a/c that works and lots of legroom meybey finally the Poms are learning from the Japs, Finally a perfect Defender , pity to get thing fixed just before the announcment that the Def is about to be Defunct !!!
I am now on my 2nd 130, the first one was a 96 300TDI, great truck, so good in fact i decided to purchase a Puma 130, have now owned for 18 months, and everything is 100%, for us and bussiness having the 6 speed box, better seats, interior, Air con etc, makes a big difference when eating up the motoway miles.
And its been just as good in the Desert, having drove 6000k, when it was new on the Land Rover Heritage drive, no issue there.
I have had a diff seal replaced under warranty, and a new bulk head seal, other than nothing bad to report.....:)
If you break down in the middle of nowhere in WA, there will not be a Ford dealer, or a Land Rover dealer, or a Toyota dealer for that mater.
So parts will have to be sent to the nearest wherever, and there are plenty of independent parts suppliers that will do that better than Land Rover or Ford.

I aggree but the point I was attempting to make is most major towns like Gereldton Carnarvon Broome, have large Ford dealerships that could possibly carry the parts, its only couple of hundred or so k's to bumb a ride from somewhere like One Arm Point to Broome to get them. Not 3000 odd to Perth . I tried independents, stuck in Gereldton, a large town resonably close to Perth, the only help I was able to get at that time was Coventry's for a thermostat. I don't know if things have changed in the last 5 years as since then I have not needed any assistance, but W.A. sadly lacks support North of the capital for Land Rover owners.

I see some valid points/reasonings I suppose on both sides, One has to remember that no-one thinks alike when it comes to "their" car, and there will be many different opinions/points of view, which is why we are asking you all for your valuable experienced input,,
We went for a drive in a 110 (1999 model TD5)a couple of weeks ago, and as far as leg room goes,, SWMBO is hieght challenged to say the least,,:D, so I'm not sure that'll be a problem,, Having said that, leg room is important to her comfort and our driving experience,, One thing we did notice, was it was fairly noisy, but had heaps of grunt, (for a deisel ;)) unsure if it was chipped etc,,
Someone mentioned (rainman) something about no-one commenting on a manual,,, just to clarify, I drive an auto's now, D2 V8 and a D1 V8 and I would prefer to go back to a manual for this car,, so she's out of luck for an auto,, and she doesnt drive the cars we have now,,
So Tonyc, the 2.2 lt motor now,, whats this out of, do you know? Is it as good as/better than the Puma, or a lesser engine?
Cheers guys,, Chops.
Hi Chops
Have a look here
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratorq"]Ford Duratorq engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
and here

It's the same engine family, Ford Duratorq, it's to do with EU emissions, the 2.4 doesn't comply, the 2.2 with a DPF? Diesel Particulate Filter does, they both apparently have identical power and torque figures. I assume the Transit will get the same engine as I assume it will have to meat the same emission standards.
Hope this helps, and as I said in my last post I'm just an onlooker from the last century.
Happy with my 300Tdi, but do often think about dropping in a 4BD1T:D

I love my Td5 Defender 110 and so does the current passenger. A vast improvement over the Stage 1 V8 it replaced after 20 years of ownership.
Yes legroom in passenger footwell is an issue and an aircon that works "all" of the time would be nice, as would be the 6 speed box.
I would personally like a 130 and would be happy with the Td5, although I have no experience with the Puma.
