    Max tracks And/or Hilift jack mounts

    Just wanting to get some idea's of mounting these externally on the car for when they get muddy so as to keep them from putting mude everywhere. I am trying to avoid roof racks currently so am looking for ways people store them on the back of the Fender. Either off the rear tyre carrier or off the rear tyre or off the crossmember.

    I found a spare tyre mount to suit the stud pattern on the D2 and mounted my high lift there, photo's in my build thread in my signature below (Page 3).

    Things I dont like about it,
    1. too big to fit behind spare wheel due to small centre hole, might be ok for the defenders though.
    2. Sits to low at the back for departure angle
    3. Sticks to far out.
    I am thinking of making some mounts that bolt to the rear door near the hinges. Should fit just in behind the spare and get the extra weight closer to the hinges.

    Dolium have a high lift jack mount which fits the rear cross member. Part number LRJMH. See dolium.com.au. I don't know if they are any good or if it is what you want but worth a look. They have other items for Land Rover, especially the Defender.

    The jack would get mud and other rubbish through it so one of the jack cover bags might also be the go.

    I have seen these but I have a recovery hitch mounted to the crossmember which will intrude on the jack I think. But Maybe I could use the mount and fix it the rear tyre carrier. Or just fab one up??

    Recovery hitch on the rear cross member? You utilising the 4 NATO hitch threaded mounting points? Td5’s and Pumas don’t really have the strength in their rear cross members without significant bracing to the longitudinal chassis members for a safe recovery. Just something to keep in mind...

    Regardless of that, I have the Dolium jack mounting on rear x-member and with the neoprene sock sold for the Hi-Lift by most reputable retailers I have no issues with it getting too dirty or fouled. My 90 has a standard OEM towbar which I use as recovery point with a swivel hitch and there is no interference from either.

    Not the best picture, but it does show it in place.

    As for the Maxtrax, something similar to a sparewheel mounted cycle rack might be an option?

    Max trax themselves to a spare wheel mounted carrier for thier stuff, I've never looked into it wild stab in the dark it won't be cheap.

    Even though you don't have a rack, you could consider a rear alloy roof rack ladder, and then use that for mounting the tracks in an upright position.

    If you're going to contemplate mounting the highlift there as well, then consider bolting the ladder to the body capping (just below the side/roof line) as well as the rear crossmember and roof. Also consider a mounting plate on the rear crossmember to take the weight of the jack.

    If you make it to suit, you can have the jack sliding in behind the ladder (upright) and clamping in, and the tracks clamping onto the outside.
