    Power steering box leak

Yep I've done a search but not much in recent posts.
The AB/Canning destroyed panhard bushes and steering ball joints. All replaced and a seal kit fitted to the box.My mech (grey hair experienced) said that the fix could not be guaranteed.Yep it's leaking.
Just want folk who have done the fix up bit to say if its's worth it or better to in the long run just fit a new box.
It's a 98 Defer with 225K on the clock .It's my daily and is going bush as long as I am fit enough so don't favour the the quick fix option.I like my Defer to be in top nick at all times
Where do I source a new box?Local or straight from Britain or elswhere?
    Your suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mary

Have a look on ebay Mary. There are steering boxes (new and used) coming up regularly.

The shaft on the steering box gets corrosion between the wiper seal and oil seal that damages the area the seal runs on.You can fit a speady slieve over the shaft and try that if it's the problem or the other thing that happens is the bottom two needle roller bearings collapse causing the leak and it a straight swap out.The box's are not worth repairing. Mary. Definately new, I never rebuild anymore as they are quite cheap now. Either UK or local suppliers. Try British 4x4 in hobart here, Allan is a sponsor of AULRO too. He has them at very good prices from time to time, new Adwest 4 bolt box.

As Justin said. I've put one of Alan's steering boxes in my D1 - it was perfect and good value at around $850 I think
