Excessive oil consumption in TDCi ?

Hi All

Maybe the bores are perfect. So that leaves, the turbo seals, intake valve seals, cracked head and injector seals. All of these would cause smoke to occur.

Now my hypothesise (word for the afternoon) is a faulty seal between the oil pressure and the fuel routes. This could be allowing oil into the return line for the fuel tank.

One litre of oil mixed with a tank full of diesel would not cause much smoke. Just before the fuel tank needs filling, the concentration of oil to fuel would be then at its highest, take a sample and get it tested.

I think you mean hypothesis ;)

However, "I hypothesize that you have oil leaking into the fuel..." would also be correct.

Oh dear! where's that Ron when you need him?

In reference to the "short tassie runs", i recieved the vehicle in june this year and it has now got 16,000 k on it, my shortest run of a day is 150k. I ran into another tassie guy up here(above brisbane) whom had the same problem with a volvo truck engine, they rebuilt it under warranty etc etc. It turns out there was a leaking seal in the fuel pump, creating positive pressure and allowing engine oil to mix with the diesel fuel.This theory sounds pretty good to me, well in theory any way.If it cant be fixed then it's back to the series 2a or the cruisers!

If LR won't fix it run it out of oil and seize it. Pat
