Snorkel for my 04' Defender 110

    G'day everyone,

1st post to this forum since joining so go gentle if this post is in the wrong place!

I'm looking at putting a snorkel on my 110 and have been doing a bit of shopping around.

ARB and TJM are both up around the $500ish, Safari around $400 and then I've been looking at ones from British 4wd (Snorkel Kits for 4x4, SUV and 4WD off-road vehicles) which are $195 for the kits.

Is there any major difference or concerns with going with the ones from BFWD? Has anyone got one and if so happy? How easy are the kits to install yourself?

    Looking forward to the feedback,

    Phil

I've gone to exclusively fitting Safari, they are an exceptional fit and very good quality.

Thanks JC. If I was to buy a Safari kit, how easy are they to add yourself or is it something best done by a pro?

On a td5 they are less than an hour to fit, Puma a little longer.

You will benefit from a step drill though, you should be able to borrow one from someone or try a specialist tool shop you only need the one that will go UP TO 30mm.

I also recommend using a small 13mm ratchet ring spanner to do up the bolts behind the inner guard, or prepare yourself for some aching wrists...

It is overall an easy job, if you were down here I could lend you the drill etc.

I personally think the only two snorkels worth looking at on a Td5 is the Safari and the Mantec.

If you're fitting it yourself I'll go for the Safari as the Mantec is pretty fiddly to fit and seal properly. Very easy fit on the Safari as well, but you would do well to use a punch for marking and starting the holes on the window frame. You don't want a drill slip... Like Justin said, those bolts are a pain regardless!
