G'day
Searched other threads on this issue but there does not seem to be a problem with the main light switch. Have side lights, can flash high beams but low beams and switched high beams not working. As said, pulled out main light switch and all appears fine and circuit tester shows it switching ok. Know that there is not a headlight relay, but does anybody know if there is a switching mechanism that I can check on that switches headlights off with ignition? Car is 2001 Defender 110.
Any ideas? Am looking at putting in the relay kit mentioned in other threads but do not think that it will be solution to this specific problem.

Thanks for the tip Justin, checked it out and unfortunately the fusible link under the seat is fine. I do suspect that it might be a problem with whatever it is that controls the headlights on and off with the ignition switch...just where to find the it? There are 3 relays under the drivers seat that are not labelled so could be one of those...anybody know what they are for?
Or anything else it could be...used a wire to bridge the switch (with ignition on) and still no joy on getting headlamps to work!

Upon further investigation have found that relay YWC10050 could be the culprit. Will go looking for it in the morning. Anybody else had experience with this fella, supposed to be a pink relay behind switches in the dash?
Cheers

I had a similar issue where the headlights would stay on. The pink relay behind the speedo was for 'Dim Dip' an old UK requirement that forces the main lights on with the side lights.
If you have this relay then you can just remove/bypass the relay. Worked for me with added benefit of not having the mains come on with the sides.
