I got mine about 9 months ago for $340 each, lucky I kept the quote because everyone seemed to put the price up to $380 within a week, so price sounds about right.
Hard size to find in the km2s, but well worth the wait if you have to.
Anyone chased prices/availability on 255/85-16 KM2's around Melbourne lately?
Made a quick phone call to Bob Jane's today - $400 each, no current stock, and 6-8 weeks delivery.
Be keen to hear from anyone that's bought some lately. PM me if you don't want to post prices etc.
With that pricing/availability I might have to look at getting them in from the US myself.

BOOF

This is why I purchased mine from the US. Consider yourself lucky - I was quoted 15 weeks delivery!! Service here from the tyre wholesalers sucks!!
www.tirerack.com
Currently quoted at US$202.00 each and my shipping was under US400 for 5 tyres if I recall correctly. If total is over AU$1000.00 you will have to pay GST - but still cheaper than local pricing and delivery to my door in 7 days.
Why does the local wholesaler make it so difficult? Personally, i'd prefer to buy locally, but......
I've tried to get particular tyres locally. Just normal, cheap ones for an old Commodore.
They couldn't get them. The distributors sent the cheap and nasties.
The reason given was Australia is on the bum end of the pecking order. We're such a small market we only get what is left after the other countries have selected theirs.
I sort of get that, but I'm surprised a progressive tyre company doesn't offer a service to bring them in to order - even if they are actually purchasing from the likes of Tyrerack.com themselves.
Sure we can do it and save some money, but some people would be happy to pay for the tyre company to do it. Expecially if its a case of "no stock for 2 months, but I can special order them for you and be here in 10 days.
Will cost you an extra $20 per tyre etc..."
Take some rough USD prices etc at the moment for 5 255/85's, and a 1:1 exchange rate.
5 tyres @$200 each
Freight @400
GST @ AUD$140
Total $1540
Retail here of $400 each, so thats still ~$450 for the tyre company for the transaction. Add another $20/tyre for the service and its $550.
Maybe I'm ignorant and its just not a big enough margin.

I purchased my maxxi bighorn 255/85 R16 2 years ago for $290 a tyre and they where about $50/tyre cheaper than the bfg's best local NSW quote but if they are now around $400my next set will be imported!
