Thread: Screen to bulkhead seal leaked again?

This may have been posted before, but no harm posting it again.
'96 300TDi Defender

Best to be aware before making the mistake I did. I removed the old foam seal and chucked it in the bin days before receiving the new seal. I didn't compare.

The foam seal I removed has a thickness in areas of 11mm
The new seal from Landrover is part# LRO16690 which apparently supercedes DWC500011 has a thickness of only 8mm
But the aftermarket one I was originally supplied with only has a thickness of 6mm and a width of only 24mm compared to 33 and 34mm

Fortunatly I went rumaging in the bin before I had completed the whole job but not until after using plenty of sikaflex to seal screen to roof.

I went to Grippy Rubber Products in Rydalmere when I needed a new seal for a Defender. They all shapes, sizes and compounds - I think the one I used was 10mm thick and worked well.
