I traded a Golf GTi for my puma 90 in Feb of this year and was up at Toolangi State forest the very next weekend. I have the Conti A/T's that come on the dual finish alloys and they were excellent for those novice months.

II am gradually working my way through fitting a number of upgrades and it's great doing it all yourself.

Overall, absolutely love the whole package can definitely recommend what is really the last 'driving experience' on the market. A new hilux for example is boring as bat***** to drive and something like a jeep is just awful on the the road compared to the 'Fender.

All this and you get a wave from all the other drivers!

Ok so from what i gather. Alot of the negative puma posts are just because people are morelikly to post when something goes wrong.
So in reality without thrashing and good maintainace they are solid realiable cars and its only a handful of bad examples???

Keep em coming if you have any thing to add it would be great!

Just to add that there seemed to be a few issues with the early release models (around 2007) that took Land Rover ages to sort out but most of those things seem to have either been rectified in the later models or they are diagnosed and repaired more quickly by the dealers. So when you're perusing the posts, just keep in mind the age of the vehicle.

If i pick one up i will be looking at the new 2012 so with any luck the new 2.2 doesnt have any problems as the bugs should be sorted with the rest of it having not changed at all.

    Hey Stickman

You have now had 9 different forum members reply and 4 of us live in the driest, hottest, most isolated part of the country and we all rely on our Rovers. I don't hesitate to take mine out on the Canning or any of the remote places around here that only sees traffic once or twice a year and of the Rovers I have owned, not once have I been let down - touch wood.

It is interesting to drive around WA mining towns and check out private real 4wds- Nissan Patrols out number everything else, Defenders and Disco's of every incantation, Range Rovers and heaps of Prentendo's for on road use. 200 series Cruisers owned privately are usually on road only, nicely polished, and 'look at me' type cars.

Doesn't matter what you buy, you may have a problem and it sometimes depends on how good the Dealers tradesmen are as to whether you think the car is the best thing since sliced bread or a lemon.

    Wouldn't I love a new 90!

    Hey Stickman,

I have had my PUMA for 3 years and have not had any major issues at all.

Done heaps of dirt work, including a trip across the Simpson. The D’fer just eats it up.

Don’t worry about the 2.2 it is basically a Euro 5 version of the 2.4.

If you buy a D'fer, you will love it. There is something special about a Defender, what ever it is, it is contagious and will put a smile on your face every time you drive it.

Go for it...Don't forget to wave

    Cheers

the one my son owns has been good, couple of little things early on,but the dealer got onto them quickly & all sorted. It is covered in mud ATM,next weekend off to Stradie, beach camping.
It has never missed a beat & puts his mates hiluxes, pootrols with lockers, etc to shame in the rough stuff.

I actually took it for a run yesterday, went really well, engine is also a lot smoother than a TD5.
I wouldn't mind one but the wife needs an auto......

I think you all have convinced me. I have had 2 test drives now and though rough i see that as part of the charm.

If everyone thinks there tough enough to handle everything for a few years i will be going in tomorrow to put a deposit on a new defender!

Land Rover and limited budget don't go together. Although I tried on numerous occasions, I couldn't convince myself in 4 years to buy a modern day version of a 110.
