I tell you that AC in my defender is taking the shine of the LR 130 I love.
My 99 TD5. I did see the other day a roof mounted AC on a 130 similar to a truck type. It might be the answer... anyone fitted one, does it work, is it refrigerative of evaportative, if it works where can I get on fitted ? signed stinky and sweaty

I removed the orginal air con from my 110 because it died and I wanted to regain some leg space in the front. I fitted a mini bus unit in the rear fixed to the roof behind the cargo barrier. It uses the standard LR compressor (Sandon) and blows oh so cold air( my wife calls the fender 'the fridge'). Not a problem with blowing cold air on the baks of our necks as the vents are angled to circulate around the cab. Probably cost about $2500 with me doing all the install of the componetry and the air con guy supplying all the components and terminating hoses etc and gassing.
Flick me a PM if you want any further info.
Cheers
Ben
I have been thinking of installing a RRc underdash or even the original A/C unit in the underseat toolbox in the rear of the dual cab and then duct the air forward to the original vent unit on the dash. I may even have some restricted vents in the rear.
The air would recirculate from vents in the toolbox and the condensate dripped directly through the floor.
Anyone tried something similar?
Diana
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I have a110 CSW V8 3.9i, that came without aircon , as I bought it in UK (86 MY) When i was living in WA I found a need for decent aircon, and was aware of the limitations of the early and later systems (I had a OZ spec 130DCHCPU as well) In the end I fitted a Red Dot roof top unit which has the condensor integral . This saves having it infront of rad, as i noticed that prettywell all the 4wds had to turn off aircon when working hard in soft sand in high temps to prevent o/heating . I also fitted the optional Donaldson filter so you can have it on freshair and pressurize the interior so keeping the dust out . i used a sanden compressor, 1 up from the normal discovery spec item , as when on full it uses a fair bit of refrigerant , but not usually on that for long even in 45C+ , the vents in the roof rotate so doesnt blow on neck . The model is R-9727 , you have to reinforce the roof panel a bit but not difficult , I ran the hoses up the drivers 'a' post . HTSH
if you google REDDOT refrigeration , and click on products and then online catalogue it will give you a good idea of whats available
