Yeah I got caught. Me fender looks like it has celulite. Lots of dimples. It's getting assesed tomorrow and I'm terrified, I don't really know what market value is on a 2001 with high km's, but I'm willing to bet my left one that it'll be about half what it'll cost me to actually replace it.

It comes from the sky or shopping centre car parks. Sorry to hear about it though it's something we all dread.

Left the D2a at home and took the 2011 Outback over to the north side. Got wacked in Watsonia Road. Will see AAMI on the 16th!
Funnily enough, market value is roughly what it would cost to replace for a similar vehicle.Yeah I got caught. Me fender looks like it has celulite. Lots of dimples. When my D1 was written off, market value was what the insurance company determined it to be by seeing what was available on the net and car yards. They spat out a figure about 10% over what I thought was going to be fair value. If you don't like what they say, ask them to justify their figure? Most insurance companies are actually full of relatively decent human beings I've found.
yeah if they under-value it you can give them examples of what it would cost to replace the car eg. ads of other defenders for sale. (of coarse depending on what kind of insurance you have)
hope all goes well for you and i'm sure it will

Hail and Defender grade aluminium don't mix. None of the old Series LandRovers in my old bone yard show signs of hail damage despite them enduring a few golfball size hailstorms in their up to 50 year lifespans, including the one on Christmas day.Same with older 1970s and earlier cars. they didn't get dimples after heavy hail like modern vehicles do.

						 WHAT!!!
 WHAT!!!
Just got back from the RACV assesment centre. My 2001 defender can't have paintless dent repair which is all they were really looking at doing. I now have to get a quote from a traditional panel beaters. The assesor on site though told me that my car was worth $15500 market value and thats all I'd get. He guesstimated that it'd cost $12000 to fix the damage to my car so it will be written off. I then asked if he could go and buy me three or four defenders the same as mine for $15k as I think I'd be able to move them for a tidy profit. He didn't seem to impressed by this and said that I could buy it back at auction. When I then said "So I'm going to have to pay probably $15k to $18k to buy back my own car at auction? You really need to look at what these things are worth. Get on cars guide right now" "His answer yeah I know what its worth $15k"
Not happy, I don't really want to lose my car and am now starting to think that 17 years of insurance with the one company and no claims has been a total waste and my best bet is to just walk away from it and keep my car as is...
Crappy hail...
