    Defender 90

Hi all, I'm thinking of picking up another Def 90; I've only just found out that Land Rover are bringing them in again!

I had one of the first batch of Def 90's when I was based in Sydney, when we moved to Cairns a few years back we needed a bit more room and changed it for a 110, which we still have (it's really my wife's, she uses it to work the markets up here). I currently have a SIII, which I've rebuilt from the chassis up, but I'm now thinking of picking up a nice new Def 90 for myself, selling the SIII and picking up an SI to rebuild...

The reason I'm writing here is to bounce a couple of ideas off you guys; if I buy a new Def 90, I was mussing about picking it up from maybe Brissy, or ideally Mt Isa, and then driving it back up to Cairns - I want to go to Dinosaur country and get it nice and dusty(!) - are the prices standard across Land Rover dealers? Also, as far as I can see Mt Isa has no Land Rover dealer - is that correct? Lastly, what do you think would be any potential issues with flying in, picking up a new vehicle, and then driving off on a long trip?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have

    Def 90

    Hi Terry,

since your first service is 12000 km away after pickup there is no problems at all. We picked up one of the "XTex" (UK Name) expensive limited edition 90's about six months back in Canberra and drove it to Bundaberg and back almost straight away. Now with 25000km it is starting to loosen up and going very very well.

One tip I will advise is to ditch the radio and put something of quality in - strange issue I know to have in a Defender.
The second is to have an extended range tank fitted. Daniel from this forum did ours and it is fantastic. Over 950 km range now.

Pics of our 90 can be seen in the 101 inspiration thread of Gary’s. Best of luck, Rick.

    90 special edition 2011

After a week of excited waiting to test drive a great looking new 90 I went to climb in and found out how unbelievably small and cramped it is. I'm 190 cm tall but never thought that my height would prevent me from owning a 90! Dang!

I looked at the seat mechanism and there's no simple fix for this problem. Anybody else had this problem? Does the seat in the 110 go back further?

You cynic; I received a reply almost immediately from head office saying they don't hold that info and to contact my local dealer

My local dealer got back to me almost immediately as well; if I sign on the dotted line this moth the deal still stands, there are a few dotted around plus there is a Firenze Red one (the colour I fancied) on a boat due here the end of Feb... now I just need to decide if I'm gonna do it... the pressure, the pressure!

    No pressure at all.

Re: dealers. I think they all have similar pricing. I would go to Townsville dealer. I spoke to him a few times and seems really good. The Mackay landrover mechanics (not dealer) who I read about on the forum gave him a rap. Unfortunately ours is from Brisbane, but I wish we had bought from Townsville. I was looking into adding some 3rd row seats into 110. He was really good explaining and calling back.

Re: pricing. Please correct me but I thought 90 new pricing was around $50-52k in November and now I see them going for 10 grand less and even thought I saw a 'new' 2.2 one with the saw tooth black wheels on car sales for less than 50k. Nice for you.

I wouldn't have thought the 2011 stock would be discounted that much. Looks like I am wrong.
