Thread: Leaky Defender

Run a bit of silly stick (silastic) around the guttering where the roof gutter wraps around over the windscreen. This solved mine. The water in mine tended to get from there through the top seal of the door, then ran inside the door and dripped on the floor.

check all of the side gutters for any splitting of sealant , esp. around roof racks if fitted -you may have to remove to check. Water can travel alongway from where it's getting in.
Depending on sealant condition is best to remove all & re-seal with quality sealant

Any recommendations on the sealant? Something that is relatively easy to get a hold of?

Hi Crabman,

I've got the same issue in my Puma 110. Driver's side only. i've never noticed it while it's raining but its once it's rained and then I drive, water starts to drip on my arm....so it's not quite at the top front corner but I suspect it's part of the same issue.

Two things to consider here.

1. Check for cracks in the seals right back to the roof crease - where the roof starts pointing at a downward angle from the top horizontal...and along the sides of the roof gutter.
2. LR tightened-up and shifted the driver's door making it harder to close but it's a tighter seal and this seems to have stopped the ingress entirely.

I originally found water on the floor and told LR that I could see it coming in the top of the door....so the leak in the door was fixed but then I found water on the floor after the next storm....so they looked and found a leak coming from the windscreen/ firewall area and playing havoc with the alarm....and guess what.....the car's out of warranty so LRA are currently debating whether to fix it.

I can feel a polite but firm letter coming on...!
