Thread: Tyre selection help

I haven't heard very much positive about coopers but 8 ply sidealls may be better -

tyres in use around here seem to be BFGs, and are what I have been happy with for years

... pricewise I will be taking a look at Maxxis Bighorns next but I don't know if the size you want is available in them

I have been looking into tyres/wheels for my SVX.

After many months of deliberation I am about to order -

16 x 8 Dynamic steel rims with neutral offset

Mickey Thompson MTZ's 285 x 75 x 16 (33's).

This combination should just fit under the guards, not reduce any steering lock or cause any rubbing to suspension components on full articulation or not.

Only time will tell or possible another member that has this set up.

Can only comment on the Mickey T's in 285 75 R16 as mine are fitted to a Disco (with Dynamic -25 8" rims) with arches, body and spring lift.

For a mud terrain, they seem to be exhibiting pretty good on road manners (good levels of grip in the wet and greasy stuff and feels direct over bumps and in corners) apart from the roar at highway speeds and have been wearing really well considering the kays I do and the thrashing they've been subjected to.

I would recommend and wait for them, and will be getting them again when these ones wear out.

I am fitting a set of Tibus portals so the wheel is a hutchinson beadlock for the Pinzgauer with a 65mm offset Hutchinson rims - Pinzgauer TD

I prefer these over the Mercedes G as they are a hell of a lot cheaper (about $550 per rim as compared with $1300 for the G rim) and they have the bolts that fit trim as opposed to sticking out.

Drover if you are interested in a set of steel rims with 0 offset I have a set of 6 King rims about 10 months old that are in pretty good condition (only one small dint in one rim and it has not upset the balance). I have a friend that is keen for the 265/75 BFG but as he has a Hilux he doesnt need the rims.

Should be available in about 8 weeks or so and I can do a good price.

I have 255/85 r16 bighorns and the y are far better than the 235 cooper/bfg at combo they replaced. Dont knowabout mickey or the newer coopers.
Cant wait to see the portals on an oz regoed car

If you're going portals, step up to 36s+, or it'll look silly. I think Brendan has his engineered for 37s or thereabouts but runs an inch or so smaller.
