    Tyres

    Hi all

We pickup our new Defender tomorrow and are looking for advice on tyres.
Part of the deal included MTR tyres. At the moment we won't be off road anytime soon and will be using the 110 as a daily driver and to tow our van. Would I be better off in fuel accom and road noise to get ATs or HTs or could I get away with using the MTs that it comes with?

Yes you would be better off, but....

While I can't comment specifically on the defender, I ran MTRs on my D2a as a daily driver (including a lot of towing) and thought they were fine. Noiser than HTs but not bad and handling was quite acceptable.

Are you thinking of trying to swap the tyres or get a second set?

If you have the opportunity to swap tyres before you pick it up, then go for it. If not, I wouldn't be too worried. Personally, I would be happy with the MTRs for that usage, but we all have different expectations.

    Cheers,
    Jon

mtr's might not be best in wet road conditions, especially towing & town driving in traffic given current weather -

Obviously MTR's differ by brand. There is a number of people on the forum who have used those new OEM MTR's for a while (Sue?) who will most probably be able to give you advice on the noise level and blacktop/wet weather handling.

As bcj said, as a rule the MTR's don't have the same level of grip around town a set a AT's will have. I personally would not bother with HT's - it is still a Defender! - but as jon3950 said, if there is a bit of a saving with having it delivered with General Grabbers (AT) you might have a bit of credit for mats or seat covers?

    Cheers,

    Lou
