    Military Roofrack??

Hi Guys. Just looked at my last post details and it was quite a while ago. Long story...After 2 fenders (tdi & TD5) had a break and crossed to the dark side...rice burner...sorry...won't happen again...have tried to rehabilitate and have a new 2011 Puma ( 110 wagon). Starting the rebuild all over again. Have lots of bits and pcs from TD5 but need to get the big ticket items back in place.

First item from a practical point of view is a roof rack. Have looked at all the usual items and there is obviously some good kit to be had. Each day on the way to work I pass an ex-military 'fender in a car yard with a good looking low profile steel rack. The rack has is a flat top with no railings and follows the contour of the roof with minimal clearance...luv it! Assumed it was not a "gettable" item for civvies short of a custom build, but I passed another on a brand new Puma today. Can anybody enlighten me as to its origins.

    Aahh....good to be back.

    Thks Miker.

Will drop in and have a sqizz at the military fender in the yard and see if there are an clues re manafacturer. They are a 4 leg gutter mount with what looks like a standard type square mesh floor. Almost looks like a protection screen you might see on a mining vehicle for rock falls etc.

They are for storing cam nets and poles. From what I've seen of them they are just a square tube frame and some mesh bolted to standard roof bars - you could do the same pretty cheaply.

    Custom Army Rack

I too love this rack , I spoke to the Manheim folk auctioning the army deefers a while back and inspected them very closely , they are custom jobs , no mfe details on them. Perhaps you could approach the steeler and ask to buy separately for cash ! Then get it sprayed to cars colour.

I too have coveted these roofracks from afar, but I always thought they were aluminium. I never approached one with a magnet to find out though.
